Milk of Amnesia Moment
It was just before Christmas that I fell and shattered my
elbow and went in for surgery at our local hospital, which was, of
course, dressed to the nines in wreaths, ribbons, and regalia. The
nurse who was put in charge of me had Christmas bells on a lanyard around
her neck (along with the regulation i.d. tag and stethoscope.) They
put me under, did their thing to fix me up, and when I came to in the
o.r., that same nurse, along with the anesthesiologist, was right
there, looking at me and making sure that I was doing all the things
you're supposed to do when you come out of anesthesia. Apparently I
did all those things right, and the nurse leaned down and told me
"You were soooooooooooooooo cheerful!" I said "I was???" and she said
"Yes, you were singing Christmas carols!" and then went on to imitate me
belting out "OOOOOOHHHHHHHH, the WEATHER outside is FRIGHTFUL....."
and she and the anesthesiologist cracked up and the anesthesiologist
said "yea, well don't feel bad, that's not the HALF of what we hear!!!!"
